SEMA CALLS FOR ZERO-WASTE IN THE CITY

City Mayor Mus Sema issued a stern warning to building administrators and tenants --- whether such building is residential, commercial, school, private or public office --- that they must keep their premises free from all garbage all the time, or face the consequence of having such garbage being thrown back inside the building or at the front-yard.

 

In line with the administration’s Tapat Ko Linisin Ko program, Sema reiterated in his January 5 letter to the business community some basic provisions of City Ordinance No. 1083 series of 1997, otherwise known as An Ordinance Regulating the Collection and Disposal of Garbage in the City, Prescribing Fees and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof.

 

Among the things to be strictly observed are the provisions of receptacles, the non-throwing of garbage in the streets and drainage canals, the use of plastic bags in handling and disposal of waste, adherence to the schedule of throwing garbage, and being responsible for the cleanliness of the building premises up to the middle of the street.

 

Last Saturday afternoon, the city mayor personally swept the garbage in front of a pawnshop along Bonifacio Street and threw back the same inside the establishment. He also forbade a sidewalk vendor to be seen again along the same street for littering.
