TYPHOON Yolanda, which first made landfall in Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 4:40 a.m. Friday with an estimated speed of around 314 kilometers (kph), now becomes “the strongest tropical cyclone on record to make landfall in world history”.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States posted that “deep, warm water” fueled Yolanda’s intensification putting at “well above Category 5 classification used for Atlantic and East Pacific hurricanes”. Except that there is no Category 6.
