GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The speculations whether businessman Roy Chiongbian would run for public office as a congressman in Sarangani Province was finally over after the businessman officially declared on Friday (October 23) his candidacy for the 2010 polls under the banner of the Sarangani Reconciliation and Reformation Organization (Sarro) Party.

Chiongbian delivered his declaration speech before a crowd of Sarangani’s political, sectoral, business and community leaders at his family’s Lagao residence. The event was participated in by the local media in the city, both print and broadcast.

Teary-eyed, Chiongbian gladly announced that he will continue the legacy started by his parents, the late former Congressman James Chiongbian and former Governor Priscilla Chiongbian, who both brought Sarangani to development with their hallmarks of good governance. He said he saw the results of the projects implemented by his parents and understood that there’s really a need to sustain those projects.

“Let me confirm to you right here and right now that with the help of God, yes, I am definitely running for Congress in Sarangani,” said Chiongbian in his declaration speech. He shared how he was bothered with text messages and questions in the past few months from people who want to confirm whether he is running for Congress.

He said he will take the challenge of making his own marks in public service by coming up with his own initiatives and programs for the province’s development.

“I see that there is still a lot that can be done to improve the quality of life of our fellow Sarangans in terms of education, health, agri-development, and peace and order,” Chiongbian said.

Sarangani Governor Migs Dominguez, on the other hand, asserted that Sarangani needs a sincere service for the people and this could possibly be attained through partnerships with Roy Chiongbian.

“Gusto po nating ipagpatuloy ang sinserong serbisyo at serbisyong may dignidad at prinsipyo at pagmamahal sa tao through effective partnerships,” he said. “The only person who can continue these partnerships is the person na masasabing mabibigay natin ang future ng ating mga anak, ng ating mga apo sa kamay ng isang leader na taglay ang isang simbolo ng pag-asa at inspirasyon na andito po kay Congressman Roy Chiongbian,” Dominguez said.

He also pointed out that “Sarangani is not for sale” and that people must stand with their principle that the province has the symbol of peace and unity.

Meanwhile, Vice Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon showed his excitement of how the programs of the province became successful with the teamwork he has with the Governor Dominguez.

“Kailangan talaga may synergy and I believe na ang synergy namong tulo (with Governor Dominguez and Roy Chiongbian) is very, very good. With our teamwork, I see that three years from now, Sarangani will grow faster and more efficient compared in the past,” Solon said.

Mayor Enrique Yap of Glan, who was one of those leaders in the province who expressed their support to Chiongbian during the event, said that Glan would never be as developed as it is today without the support of the Chiongbians, Solons, and Dominguez.

He said 29 out of 31 barangay captains in Glan were giving their 100 percent support to Chiongbian because of the latter’s sincerity to serve that he has been showing to the people.

“Kaming mga taga-Glan, not for sale. Ang among integrity ug dignity among barugan alang sa kaugmaon sa probinsiya sa Sarangani, sa Glan, ug sa mga kabatan-onan,” Yap said.
