The Hubport Group, which provides software and IT development services to global clients, has established a business process outsourcing (BPO) facility and training center in partnership with Mindanao State University’s Iligan Institute of Technology, with assistance from USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program. The memorandum of agreement on establishing the facility was signed by (seated, l-r) Hubport human resource director Shane Maximo, Hubport chief operations officer Eric Manalastas, MSU-ITI Chancellor Marcelo Salazar, and Dr. Emmanuel Lagare, chairman of the Iligan Information and Technology Council; and witnessed by (standing, l-r) Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz of Iligan City, and Renne Subido, deputy program manager for business growth of the GEM Program, which is implemented under the oversight of the Mindanao Economic Development Council. The facility on MSU’s Iligan campus houses the remote office of HP Outsourcing Philippines, Inc., which is providing training in Web design, animation, software design, transcription services and other BPO skills. Students undergoing on-the-job training at the 42-seat facility, which also serves as a 24-hour extension office for the firm’s global operations, are doing work for HP’s overseas clients. GEM
